NJ Sussex Skylands

The natural beauty of New Jersey’s Sussex Skylands region and its proximity to New York City make it a getaway favorite for travelers seeking four season outdoor adventure along with access to the Big Apple’s urban excitement.

The Sussex Skylands offers acres of opportunities for hiking (including 40 miles the Appalachian Trail and an assortment of rail trails), biking, kayaking, camping, fishing, or simply getting outside to enjoy nature.

Home to Crystal Springs Resort and Mountain Creek, visitors will find world-class golf courses, luxury day spas, fine-dining and one of North America’s premier wine cellars, along with skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, mountain biking, ziplining, and a water park built into the mountain side.

History buffs and rockhounds will find one of the most famous mines in the world located in the Sussex Skylands. The industrial complex that was once the Sterling Hill zinc mine is now open to the public as the Sterling Hill Mining Museum featuring underground mine tours, fantastic displays of "glow-in-the-dark" fluorescent minerals and exhibit halls packed with things most people have never seen before. Together with the nearby Franklin Mine, it is known for the more than 360 different mineral species found there, of which more than 80 are fluorescent under ultraviolet light.
