Olympic Peninsula, Washington

Located just 90 miles west of Seattle, Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula offers memorable and diverse landscapes designed for nature loving photographers. The Olympic Peninsula is spectacular! From lush rainforests to pristine coastlines, the area has one-of-a-kind nature experiences that are worthy of any Instagram account including those discussed below.

Olympic National Park

Olympic National Park is a treasure! Spanning nearly a million acres, the park is home to distinct ecosystems and wildlife. With so much to see and do it would be impossible to capture every angle of this unique destination. Some of the most popular spots include Hurricane Ridge, Ruby Beach, Maple Glade Nature Trail, and Rialto Beach.

Hoh Rain Forest

The Hoh Rain Forest is a magical place! It is also one of the most popular destinations in the Olympic Peninsula. If you want to post pictures of cascading waterfalls, rolling rivers, captivating wildlife, and serene forested trails, then this is the spot for you!

The area offers two short loop trails as well as an out-and-back trail through the forest near the Visitor Center. We recommend planning for plenty of time to explore the area.

Some of the most popular areas that are worth capturing and sharing include the Hall of Mosses Trail, the Spruce Nature Trail, and the Hoh River Trail. Prepare to be in awe when you wander the Hall of Mosses Trail. This iconic loop of forest features a grove of massive big leaf maple trees. The Spruce Nature Trail is a short walk packed with both old and new growth and follows along the Taft Creek and the Hoh River. The Hoh River Trail is an out-and-back trail that can take you to so many scenic spots, including one trail that ends with an iconic view of Mt. Olympus.

Olympic Beaches

Summer is the perfect time to capture and share the beauty of the Olympic Peninsula beaches. You can pick one spot to stay and play or gas up your car and drive the 61 miles of the scenic byway along the Olympic Peninsula coast. Either way you are guaranteed epic scenery. For some unique shots, plan a stop in a historic fishing village or, depending on the time of year, you may be able to watch for whales and other wildlife.

Waterfall Trail

Are you a fan of Waterfall Wednesday? If you are then your trip to the Olympic Peninsula should include a visit to the Olympic Peninsula Waterfall Trail. Following the Olympic Peninsula Waterfall Trail promises to deliver many epic shots of dazzling waterfalls. This trail is described as “magical” and “misty”. During the summer months, it is also cool and refreshing because visitors are able to enjoy the warmth of the summer sun while dipping their feet in the cool water at the base of the waterfalls.

Alaska

Alaska

The summer season is a great time to visit Alaska and capture its beauty for the gram. In Alaska, the summer season runs from late May to mid-September. During your visit we recommend spending some time in Anchorage and Fairbanks and capturing special moments at the many hot spots including those discussed below.

Anchorage

Alaska’s largest city offers the quintessential Alaska experience with metropolitan amenities. When you first step into town keep your eyes open and your camera ready to capture one of the area’s 1,500 resident moose. These wild animals are more likely to be spotted in town munching on a flower bed or rubbing their antlers on a mailbox than in a remote location.

Other popular locations to capture the essence of Anchorage include the following:

  • Anchorage Museum
  • Westchester Lagoon
  • Kincaid Park
  • Flattop Mountain
  • Beluga Point
  • Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
  • Portage Glacier
  • Arctic Valley
  • Eagle River Nature Center
  • Eklutna Lake

Fairbanks

You are guaranteed to have plenty of light for your photographs if you visit Fairbanks from April 22 to August 20. During the Midnight Sun Season, the sun never seems to set. It’s not unusual during this time to go out during the night hours and find people out enjoying daytime activities. It may be the only place where you can golf, hike, bike, and run safely in the middle of the night.

While we recommend taking pictures that show off the beauty of Fairbanks, we also recommend visitors explore the epic areas around Fairbanks. Fairbanks is the basecamp to Alaska’s Interior and Arctic, just two hours away from Denali National Park and a five or six hour drive from the Arctic Circle. Both of these hot spots are guaranteed to take up plenty of space on your Instagram page.
